Cosmetology (CO or COS) The Cosmetology course is a three-year commitment for those students pursuing the required 1,500 hours of instruction for their State of Michigan Cosmetology license. Students enroll as a junior in high school and must return after high school graduation to complete the 1,500-hour requirement. First & second year students concentrate on theory and practice hands-on skills utilizing mannequins and each other. Third-year students continue their studies in theory and practical work, as well as, operate the Touch of Class Salon where students experience real-life salon situations. Students completing the program register with LARA to take the Michigan Cosmetology State Board Exam and upon passing the test, they will be licensed as a cosmetologist.
